"9 Paths to Slovenia"

Migration is not just statistics –it is a web of life stories pulled taut between the personal and the political.

On International Migrants Day, we will present nine true stories of life and migration to Slovenia, of challenges, perseverance, and both small and great victories along the way. We will also share experiences of adult daughters of immigrants searching for invisible roots that reach into another time and cultural space.

Bitácora Introspection Workshop

The first part features collages created within the creative workshop led since March by artist Lili Mascio.
The workshop has established a safe space where migrants explore their stories through collage, confront past experiences, and reflect—through artistic creation—on the challenges of life in a new environment.

Armando Nuñez, Lili Mascio, and Carolina Zibert will present their works on experiencing Slovenia as a new home, and on the intertwined feelings of belonging and exclusion in a new place.

Zine by Three Daughters: "Departed Particles / The Daughters` Imprints"

“Our fathers came to Slovenia during the Non-Aligned Movement era from various Arab countries, bringing with them stories marked by distance and estrangement, yet also warmth, closeness, and deep connectedness.
These histories did not form a single coherent narrative for us; instead, they revealed themselves gradually—through objects that carried special, often inexplicable meanings; through half-spoken memories; photographs without captions; and fleeting traces preserved more in atmosphere than in clear narration.
At the same time, these objects represented a living thread tightly connected to daily life: a deep bond between loving memories and the maintenance of family ties.
Through the creative process, the objects acquired new forms and new meanings.”  Zine authors: Hana Alhadi – interdisciplinary artist and migration researcher; Helena Tahir – academic painter; Sausan Hussein – internationally awarded violinist and educator.

Their stories will be shared alongside photographs by Nino Bektashasvili, presented by Jasna Gabrovšek.

Heroines!

APIS Institute have joined the international initiative Heroines! We bring to the public the stories of exceptional women, hoping they will speak especially to  young female readers. We transform their life stories into materials that are accessible and engaging for younger audiences, so that they may perhaps find role models among them.

The stories of Aida, Arbnore, and Islam undoubtedly have the power to touch readers of all ages. Deepened by the outstanding photography of Nino Bektashashvili, they draw viewers even further in. This time, the following exceptional women will be presented:
